KURUNEGALA


      Kurunegala is capital city of the North Western Province, Sri Lanka, and the Kurunegala District. Kurunegala was also an ancient royal capital for 50 years, from the end of the 13th century to the start of the 13th century. Kurunegala is located at the junction of several main roads linking to other important parts of the country. Kurunegala is surrounded by coconut plantations and rubber estates. There are eight very noticeable large rocks that encircle and dominate the city.

Elephant rock (Athugala)

    The Elephant Rock is synonymous with the city of Kurunegala. The unique value of the Kurunegala town is Elephant Rock (325Mtrs.). It resembles an elephant. Legend has it that during periods of severe drought, the animals threatened the city's water supply, they were magically turned into stone.



Kurunegala lake 

Kurunegala lake is a large man made lake that is located at the outskirts of the town of Kurunegala on the Kurunegala-Dambulla road. The lake   was built by   ancient kings   surrounded by  beautiful surroundings.
